My Jam

I’ve been giving this a lot of thought…and I am SURE that you all wake up at least once a week thinking, “I wonder what Maggie is listening to this week?”  I hate for you to be stuck wondering things so I’ll just tell you what: how ’bout I start blogging about music that is really rocking my socks every so often?  And how ’bout, since you always hear people say, “THAT’S MY JAM!!!”, how ’bout I call the posts “My Jam”.  And how ’bout I do one right now?!?!?

First of all, my jams this week have been uncharacteristically laid back!  Usually I’m the kid who wants her music louder and faster than all the other kid’s music.  But this week…the quieter the better.  I want to have to work to hear my music this week.  So I’ve been really feasting on some worship music this week.  Seeking the words, following the spirit of the music and the Spirit of the lyrics.

That being said, there are a few artists I immediately go to when I’m craving worship music.  One of those, is Christy Nockels.  If you’ve never listened to much of her music, you are DEFINITELY missing out.  This woman has such a sweet spirit.  Have a little bit of #throwbackThursday (on a Tuesday), if you remember a Christian band called Watermark, that was Christy Nockels and her husband.  Now…she’s just Christy.  She has a couple of albums out and helps Chris Tomlin with his stuff a lot.  I was listening to her latest album this week, “Into the Glorious“.  The song that caught my attention that never really had before is called “Be Loved“.  My theme for the year is Love.  So I’ve been going through my music and finding all the Love songs.  This.  Is.  My.  Favorite.  The music is just calm, and peaceful, and…like a hug.  This song is like being hugged.  And I don’t care if you think that’s a weird analogy.  Listen and you’ll understand!  And the words.  Oh, the words!  “Just be loved.  Be loved, He Loves you!”  We think that’s so simple…but do we really allow God to Love us, and do we really let ourselves accept it?  I think often times we don’t.  We think we’ve done so much that we can’t POSSIBLY deserve His Love.  And we couldn’t be more right.  The only problem with that logic…is that God doesn’t expect us to deserve it.  That’s what Grace is.  I recently read the best definition of Grace I’ve ever read.  It was in a book called “Jesus Prom: Life Gets Fun When You Love People Like God Does” by a man named Jon Weece.  He defined Grace this way: “Grace is the face love wears when it meets imperfection.”  Oh…

My uptempo jam for the week is still pretty chill for me.  But it’s from Matt Redman‘s album “Your Grace Finds Me” and the name of the song is “Sing and Shout“.  I love this song because the second half of the chorus: “Open up our hearts and pour your praises out.”  That’s what I pray for myself.  For my church.  For my friends & family.  For you.  That we can’t help but sing and shout.  And that every time we open our mouths and every time we open our hearts, the only thing we are filled to overflowing with is the praises of the God most high.  He is great.  We should prove it.

I took the liberty to create a playlist with those two songs and some of my other jams here below.  I hope you enjoy them.  Be blessed.
